but i think for the average person the guns are satisfactory.
Im sorry for not being so technical

And about the sounds being off.. It's a video game... NOT REAL LIFE.
Thanks for clearing it up that it's not real life, I was totally confused on that part. I know it's not real life, but I enjoy realistic sounds in a game. It might be a personal thing, but I like a lot of realism. I was trying to be super negative about the game, it's a good game. I just expected more than I actually got. I was simply hoping for some advancement and progression from what I experienced in Call of Duty 2.

And to whoever mentioned the weapons being to accurate/powerful I half agree. I don't think they are too powerful...it's a gun, you get shot with one you are going to be in pain/die, especially if it's in the torso. I agree with too accurate though, you can be walking around with the sights up and there is hardly a speck of rifle sway. I know that most modern rifles are in .223 and half very minimal recoil to them, but I think the recoil is more substantial than what they make it out to be.

To clear things up, I don't hate the game, I enjoyed the SP experience quite a bit. It was exciting, though incredibly frustrating at times. The MP experience is really fun, the customization/leveling is fun and adds a sense of "accomplishment" to the experience. I'm concerned that it's going to get old real fast, as I've only played 3 hours and it already is. I get tired of constant nade spamming, bunny hopping, and dolphin diving.

what i said wasn't completely useless, what you want is too much for video games. remember their called GAMES for a reason. Id have to say the most realistic game out now is crysis, try that..your rig should be okay

I played the demo, thought it was fun then, but waited quite a while to actually pick it up (which I finally did today). While in best buy I was torn between Crysis (which I loved the demo of) or CoD4. I chose CoD4 for what I was expecting to be a somewhat fun single player campaign and what seems to be awesome online play.

I played for quite a few hours tonight, I believe I am at or close to the last level (I'm on the level right after the sniper flashback level). Overall I'm really disappointed in single player. It's just nothing but the same old stuff. Same CoD with a new pair of clothes. I swear this game hasn't changed since the original came out. Graphics have improved, SOME additions have been added, but it's seriously unchanged. I know the saying "don't fix it if it isn't broken" but at least ADD some new stuff. I'm playing on hardened so I have had many times of dying in a blaze of bullets and having to restart from some annoyingly far back save.
That's not nearly the last level, although the game's single player is rather short.

Take cover? Choose an easier difficulty?

I'll agree that that's frustrating, especially since they've had firing mode selectors in the past, I believe.

Again, agree. Need deeper, more impactful sounds.

I guess you haven't been exploring enough. Most, if not all, levels have 2-3 different paths you can take and mix up.

That's not a rant against Call of Duty, it's a rant against linear FPS games in general. Don't be upset with one game for following a particular way of doing things and not any other games that do the same thing.

You guys actually play single player mode?

I buy these types of games (being a longtime COD2 clanner) for multiplayer online. Single player is like a fire and forget missile. Once you've used it once, its no longer of use.

COD4 in multiplayer has its issues:

Need bigger maps!

Need hardcore filter on server menu

Grenade Launcher and Martyr are insanely frustrating. I personally feel the launcher is overpowered. Reduce it to one grenade, and perhaps reduce range a bit, don't allow it to be usable with bunny hopping, etc.

Martyr kills should not count towards your score and you must have a grenade in inventory before dying.

Last stand: must have a pistol in inventory and ammo left over

Helicopter and airstrike need to be increased in requirements and the two should not overlap. In other words if you get 5 kills from an airstrike in should not qualify you for a helo. Spammers can rack up quite a headcount this way.

Knife and sprint: Bad combo. Even though knifing is a one hit kill (Which even the barrett can't seem to do consistently),what makes it frustrating is guys who sprint and then stab. You can't do that with a gun so why with a knife?

Ranked servers should be required to have auto-balance enabled at all times and the delay for it to kick it should be very short. Having a team of 10 against four even for a couple of minutes can pretty much win the round. Also, players should be forced to join a team with less players at the start. Too many times everyone goes "marines" and you get lopsided battles until auto-balance eventually kicks in. assuming the server has it.

L55: should give bonuses and should also remove certain options.

I do not know the sounds of these rifles, so cannot comment. I did really enjoy the game on PC, but felt that it was a little too short.
In terms of telling you what direction the enemy are firing from, isn't that a true part of the modern "theatre of war"?
I also found the cutscene where the USMarine dies in the explosion to be really quite moving.
All-Ghillied-Up is probably my fave part of the game.

cod4 is probably the best 'shoot em up' game to be released since half life 2. Its primarily a multiplayer game IMO yet the single player i enjoyed quite alot its a nice cinematic alternative to the multiplayer. Also, I cant think of any game that simulates real weapon/soldier behaviour better than COD4 off the top of my head. The recoil, accuracy and manouverablility of the weapons are spot on and have alot of feel to them. You feel like you really understand the weapon. They perfected online ranking, too. Its totally addictive. Only GTA IV managed to take me away from it.
