I can't wait to see the K10 dual cores that are supposed to be coming, if they are cheap they should be interesting.

this might be silly question but why is there no K9 architecture??

Because the K10's use 1066 speed memory stock, the limit on the K8's is 800 stock(although they obviously oc'ed it so odd).

Rumor has it there was a K9 architecture, a cell-like super scalar many core CPU, but it was canned in 2006. It was supposed to succede K8, but AMD was wrong supposing the x86 world would go multi-thread (see games for example) and had to close the project. K10 was subsequently a patchwork between what was K8 and what should have been K9 resulting the current mess, aka a core that is excellent on paper, but impossible to manufacture.

There was, K8 was the single core, K8L was the low power and K9 was the dual core

I heard the K9 architecture was supposed to be a dog.....so it was skipped

But dragosmp is right, it was canned in 2006 I believe.

Also, there's a rumor that AMD wanted to avoid the K9 (aka canine) naming. Personally, I think they should have kept it. Would you buy a CPU codenamed Pitbull or Rottweiler?

K10 isn't impossible to manufacture... it's just a big step for AMD. The 4 native cores with shared cache added a huge amount of complexity in both design and manufacturing.
Once again...

I hope you are a very patient person. Original roadmaps showed that the K10 X2s, codenamed Kuma, were supposed to be released in Q4 '07. I've been wating but gave up and got a K8 instead. Since the K10 architecture isn't really scaling in terms of clockspeed and peformance against the C2Ds, a K10 X2 probably would have wrecked in all benchies so AMD released the X3s to compete with the C2Ds.
