How do you know that? ATI has never done it before, right?

The HD2900XT and HD3870 have almost identical cores. The HD2900XT has a 512bit interface and the HD3870 has a 256bit. The HD3870 and HD2900XT are identical in performance.

yes but this isn't an almost identical core video card. the way i see it is don't say it doesn't give any noticeable performance when you really don't know what your talking about. But the benchmarks of the card will tell if its really worth it...since words don't mean *****....

You can assume that the extra 160SPs that it packs will definitely give it better performance with the 1GB of GDDR5, but having both GDDR5 and 512bit interface just causes another bottleneck.

Has a card been made yet that has both?

No, RV770xt will be the first card on the market with GDDR5. The 2900XT and Pro had 512bit interfaces with GDDR4(half the speed of GDDR5)

So how are you reaching the conclusion that a 512bit interface and GDDR5 will be a waste?

GDDR4 at half the speed and a 512bit interface was a waste on the 2900xt. The core won't be able to keep up.

If the memory is running way faster, then it is doing its share of the work faster. Even if the core isn't any faster, the data will be processed faster. Am I right?

No... The core does the processing the memory just holds the data. If the core is too slow, then there is no point in having both the 512bit interface AND GDDR5. One or the other is justifiable, but GDDR5 is cheaper to implement than a 512bit interface. It also uses less power and can be produced more easily. You also get the bragging rights of having the fastest memory on any video card. The average joe doesn't know what the difference between 256bit and 512bit interface is.
