well if you're not going sli, or raid, i would suggest the Gigabyte P35-DS3L, its like $90 on newegg.

650i should be fine but need to keep the expectation from it for a quad. What's the budget? If you don't SLI, then should pick the Intel chipset board such as Gigabyte P35 -DS3L at $90 range or Abit IP35P at $70 range.

I'm running a 650i board and it has been great for me so far but as mentioned, stay away from quad core processors. This motherboard does not seem to deal well with them for the most part.

Also keep in mind that LT or Ultra 650i's do not support SLI and only come with 1 IDE header.

anybody have an idea of what a setup like that would run on 3dmark? just the parts specified should be enough to guess.

thanks

My suggestion are as followed:

Go with 1066 or higher because Intel system tend to perform better with higher MHz and loose timing then with lower MHz and tighter timing and definitive don´t like 1 : 1, it performs better wiyh any other divider.

Change that 8800GTS 640 for a 8800GTS 512 (better performace).

Change E6600 for a E8400 (runs cooler, higher stock speed and OC better).

Change 650i for Gigabyte P35 -DS3L, DS4 or even a ASUS P5K-E/WiFi, great board (Intel´s P35 chipset board performs better then Nvidia´s 600 serie).

That´s my humble opinion

Good luck

DS3L's can be had for under $100 easily. If you don't plan on setting up a RAID and you don't mind the colour scheme of a Fisher Price My First Motherboard then I'd say go with that. The P35 chipset is a great performer as is the board.

If it's all about money and you're going to go with the 650i and the hardware you posted I'd say you're looking at around 9k. That's a guess of course.

I already have the 8800gts that we are using in it, we are going for a cheap upgrade for him, he has a custom rig with an 2300 amd atholon and 400mhz memory and 9800pro ati card,

so this will be a major improvement...

Okey, go for the E8400 then, it should be cheaper then E6600 and way much better.
