Thread Starter
Ok so i got my new E8400 yesterday and my friend gave me his Q6700 with the E8400 oc'ed to 4 GHZ and the Q6700 at 3.6 GHZ the quad ran circles around the E8400 even at 4 GHZ it couldn't touch the Q6700 at 3.6 my internet is down at home so when its back up ill post some screenies of this Bad boy Q6700 at 3.6. Games ran even better with the quad because background task in vista were powered thru with the multi tasking of the Quad i sent the E8400 back not impressed at 4 GHZ Q6700 has my vote!

What no flak from the E8400 club i was waiting for all the objections, but then again how can you argue with the superior perfomance of the quad core in vista ^^

My e8400 at 4.0 beat out my 3.25 q6600(b3) by 20fps in Crysis. I believe it was a mear cpu bottleneck. I want to try a q6700, but some new procs are coming out soon (I hope) so I'm trying to hold off since my machine is smoking any game I play atm. It's good to hear I have something to fall back on if the rumor of intel locking their cpus down is true. thanks for the info. Be sure to post some benches please.

Edit: As far as the background processes in Vista... I run the minimal services tweak from www.speedyvista.com and then took a few more out myself. I have 16 processes running when I launch a game. So not much going on in the background hehe...

"mear" LOL.
that rumor of "locking down" CPU's MIGHT be true for NEHALEM...I wouldn't worry about it at this point...btw, a Q6700 isn't a better processor for most people than a 6600...personally, My motherboard has reached 462 fsb, and that would be PLENTY for any quad on air cooling...my chipset sucks for quads, but your 780i would be fine to max out a Q6600.

just my two cents

Thats strange i thourght crysis was more of a graphics card game, when i run the crysis benchmark tool with my cpu @3.2GHz then do the same @3.4GHz there is no difference in the score yet if i do the test with my graphics card @stock then do the same test with my card overclocked i get a lot more FPS.

agreed...there's no way that there's a 20 fps difference from those CPU changes. Crysis is graphically bottlenecked by today's cards, but not by CPUs.
