OCZ Gold, Any Good? - Page 2

Cool, thanks...

Is the price difference b/w the gold and ReaperX worth it? The reaperX is costs about 45% more than the Gold. Both DDR2 800 models, the 1066's are more expensive.

Ooh can you also please explain the 1T 2T settings a bit, I could find any good explanations. I'm the worst at picking RAM! Don't know the first thing once you remove the HS.

Ooh and what do you think would be better....
DDR2 800Mhz Ramn OC'd to lets say 500Mhz(vs 400 stock), with possible loosed timings
OR
DDR2 1066Mhz Ram Underclocked to 500(vs 533 stock), with possible tighter timings.

Which would be more feasible and would the 2nd option be worth the increase in price.

Thanks...

To be honest, most kits over 800mhz are just factory overclocked 800mhz kits. I say save the cash and do it yourself but there's no guarantee you'll be able to run them as fast. It's a gamble.

1T gives you better performance but 2T gives you more stability. That's how I have always looked it. Don't get too hung up on it although since you want to underclock your memory to run 1:1 you may be able to pull it off. Again, there's no guarantee that your memory will run at anything other than the manufacturer's default settings.

Intel systems stand to benefit more from higher frequencies than they do with tighter timings so I'd go for the fastest memory you can get or overclock it has far as you can.

Luckily you're buying memory at the best possible time. It's dirt cheap with many good 2x1GB kits for under $30 after a rebate and 2x2GB kits for under $100.

So I guess I'll stick with DDR2 800. And just OC to whatever I need.

Intel systems stand to benefit more from higher frequencies than they do with tighter timings so I'd go for the fastest memory you can get or overclock it has far as you can.
In that case, I guess I'll have to go with the ReaperX over the Gold since its obviously the better OC'er.

Unluckily for me, I'm getting for a store and I'm getting ripped off on the memory, everything else is a good price, just the "High Performance" memories are an effin rip off. About $50 more than online.

One more Q, some reviews said the ReaperX would only work at the stock timings on the nForce6 boards (EPP), any Idea where I could find a stable setting for my Gigabyte X38-DS4 motherboard, OCZ forums only have settings for P35's and DFI X38's.

The nForce chipsets are a whole 'nother beast when it comes to O'Cing in general. On the Nvidia's, 1T is a fairly simple feat (but the 6x0i's are lousy overclockers in general). Your X38-DS4 Will not have any problem, I got a kit of OCZ 2x2 PC2-8000 (1000 mhz) to 1100 without too much work.

Actually, update for my OCZ Gold. I've got it at 900mhz now at 4-4-4-8-2t
