Capacitor Questions!

Thread Starter
In wiring up my CNC Mill's electronics, the manual said that if the power supply leads are longer than 18" to use a 1000uF capacitor- Went out and bought 3 of them (one for each drive). Problem is, there's a short and long leg. Which way should I wire it up? The two terminals are labeled as "+28v" and "Power Ground". Any tips?

The manual is located here- Page 1 under "Power Supply Hookup"

Saw this- http://www.toddholoubek.com/classes/...readboard.html

Quote:
Step Eight: Find the long leg(power) of the 1uf capacitor and connect it to the to the top of the column marked with the red line(power). Find the short leg(ground) and connect it to the column marked with the blue line(ground)
So the long leg is power (positive I assume?) and short leg is ground (negative?)

The NEGATIVE side is usually marked along the side of the capacitor, a black line with ( - ) printed down it.

The negative leg should be under the side that has a black stripe on the side of the capacitor, which would be the short leg.

Silly me- I went back downstairs to look at them and sure enough, there was a big blue stripe on the short side I hooked the negative side up to the Power Ground and the positive side to the +28v side. Thanks everyone!
