My intel penryn quad core extreme 3.0Ghz 11-14c?

Hello,

I just recieved my quad core extreme 45nm Penryn and installed it into my computer. When i booted in the bios and on my operating system it said that it was 11-14c cold i cannot believe this. Is this even possible? It is liquid cooled.

running at 1.12Vcore i don't find it hard to believe. That is if your ambients are around there, if your ambients are higher then you know it is telling you porkies

Besides it is only running at 2ghz as well.

Turn speedstep off and see what happens

He said the BIOS also stated that as well.

Unless his temp sensor is shot there should be no reason to discredit the information

The temp sensors are likely shot. Mine are. First use realtemp, not core temp. Second, run orthos for an hour while watching the temps, they should rise on all 4 cores. If they don't you have stuck sensors.

Not unless you're in a very cold room.

RealTemp is (probably) the only monitoring software that gives the correct temps for 45nm processors.

The basic issue is that intel has never announced what the TjMax value is for penryn processors, and the sensors only report distance from TjMax. In addition, the distance reported by the sensors from TjMax isn't linear except when you're within about 35C of TjMax. Most software assumes that it IS linear, and even worse has to guess what TjMax is. The author of RealTemp did a bunch of testing that suggests that the TjMax value on penryn processors is 95. CoreTemp assumes 105, but my own temps suggests that this is much too high, and the general consensus seems to agree with this. Speedfan appears to assume a TjMax of 100, so under load those tend to be the temps I trust.
