Okay, I have a situation here.

An older Dell Latitude D820:
Centrino DUO T2500 @ 2.0GHz
1GB RAM
Intel GMA 950 224MB Available shared RAM.
Non-glossy screen up to 1280x800

OR

A Newer Dell Latitude D531
AMD Turion64 x2 1.8GHz
2GB RAM
ATi Radeon X1270 upto 700mb Available shared RAM
Glossy screen upto 1440x900

I would have thought the D531 but would I notice a decrease in performance with the AMD Turion CPU?

Going to be mainly used for heavy MS Office use, with light gaming (Age of Empires III, Sid Miers Civilization etc...)

Which would be best, As I said I would have thought the D531?

You might notice a slight decrease in performance, but probably not too much, plus the RAM will probably counter any performance loss.

However the Turion will get a bit hotter than the core 2.

What is the price difference?

If you are into light gaming, a newish Vostro will run you ~$1,000 with 2gb of RAM, 8600GT, and a decent Core 2.

It was just the place where I manage IT just got 5 new D531s in for cheap (bulk from the county) and the head currently has a D820, she likes the Age of Empires, Civilization games and thought it would be better to have a "proper" graphics card. The heat isn't an issue, its always used on a table, and when at school, in a docking station. Right now AoE isn't too great on the D820.

As far as i'm aware the T2500 isn't a Core 2, just a Centrino Duo mobile.
