What is the main reason for RROD(3 red lights) ?

What is it really? I ordered a 360 came in today and it was on for about 30 secs then the prod (3 red lights) appeared. I turned it off for 10 minutes then turned it back on, it was on for a while then prod again. What is going on?

Overheating causes it?? Its in an enviorment with a temperature of 89F.

Used, 30 days warranty.

I can either send it back for a replacement (which is gonna be used as well offcourse but working) or either try to fix this by opening and doing the x-clamp mod.

Which one should I shoot for?

It's caused by the GPU's balled connections to the motherboard coming loose from previous heat stress which has warped the board and/or caused the GPU TIM to pull away from the die.

X-clamp works.

May I offer you a proposal? I've been wanting to do a RROD guide for here, because I've seen a lot of misinformation around, and I want to offer RROD fixes as a service. If you want, send me your box and I will fix free as a guinea pig. I guarantee a fix, though you're no worse off than before if I fail. In fact, if I can't fix it, I will eat the shipping, otherwise you pay.

Interested?

Tell you what, that sounds awesome but I am thinking about sending it back to the seller who will send me a replacement. And if that has the same problem I will be glad to send it to you, appreciate it, thnx.

The newly manufactured 360's (Falcon) have a very low rrod rate.

Look two moves ahead. What's the warranty guy going to do? Send him a falcon? Anything short of a falcon and he'll probably RROD.

If you hit the sweet spot, as I advocate and want to show in my guide to put my money where my mouth is, a proper X-clamp job turns your Xbox into Khelgar from Neverwinter Nights: A TANK.

I am all for your x-clamp guide and I'll offer my giunea pig of an xbox360 that I have. I have tried several different x-clamp methods and would seriously like to see if you can work your magic on the one I have. PM me if interested.
