Torn... To upgrade or wait it out?

Alright so I am dying to upgrade my current rig, and am saving paychecks to do so. My original plan was to wait it out and save for Nehalem, but now it is not looking so promising. What with all this talk of the overclocking locks on the lower end CPU's (The only ones I can probably afford) and the constant delays and wait till Q1 or Q2 2009 for 45NM Quads, and maybe a 32NM doesn't seem worth it.

I know no software can really even handly Quads yet, let alone the eight cores that are going to be coming out, and I'm sure software won't advance much in six months. As for upgrading to the current quads out, I was against it as socket 775 would be dead within six months. I was all set on going Nehalem, but partnered with the low points of the split sockets based on cost I found information on Sandy Bridge set to debut in 2010. It will be using even smaller microarchitecture so will that be a new socket also? I will not even bother going Nehalem if it is going to last but one year.

Anyway, I am just searching for conversation and some valid points supporting both sides. (Upgrade to current quads, or wait out Nehalem.) What do you guys have to say?
