Q6600 Woes....help needed.

Thread Starter
I have been using an e6700 for around 7 months ans decided to switch to a Q6600 yesterday. So, i went to the shop, installed the new CPU and came back and from all the things i have gathered from all sources, this mobo i am having wasnt good for Quad OCing but nonetheless , wud hit 3Ghz easily....but as soon as i started raising the bar, it started to BSOD,even at 1100MHz.

So, i used Coretemp 0.99 Beta and found my cores were idling at 50-52 and shooting to 70-71 at default speeds(ambient is around 40C though). So my assumptions are that

1.I shud buy a CPU cooler.
I am thinking of a TRUE 120 with a fan of over 100 CFM.

2.Thermal compound.
Artic Silver 5 or ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 ? coz the site i buy are listing the MX2 as more pricey than AS5.

3.There is also something they list as Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive(Premium Silver Thermal Adhesive) which is priced around 5x that of AS5 or AC MX2.

What is this thing and shud i biy it in place of AS5 (if it is for the same purpose that is)?

4.I have seen a 4 months old IP35 Dark Raider Mobo for sale. Will it be better for OCing a Q6600 than my current one since i have heard great things abt IP35's but those were PRO models and this is a DR.

Thanx in advance for any help provided to this n00b who was waiting to hit 3 Ghz out of the box with a Quaddy......

I can only speak from my experience, and I gave up trying to run any extended Overclocks on my Q6600 and P5N32 E Mobo (same as yours).

It is a Vista Rig, and I mostly twiddle with it, otherwise I would be quite miffed.

I would not give up though. There are numerous peeps here that may have found a work-around; perhaps ericeod or DuckieHo might have a solution.

Next step could be get your RAM to where it was before and relax the timings to say 5-5-5-15 if it was 4-4-4-12. Play around so that you take the most out of your RAM but only after you have reached the desired o/c.
