ATI Tool 0.27b4 w/ Mobility x1700

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, as the title says I want to overclock my ATI Mobility Radeon x1700 using ATI Tool 0.27 beta4. I'm hoping to play Age of Conan up to possibly medium settings, assuming the OC-ing does okay.

When I open up ATItool it says

"Your ATI card supports 2D/3D mode switching, but you have the ATI services disabled.

ATITool works best when these services are enabled."

I'm not sure what exactly this means or whether it means using ATItool will cause an explosive inferno within my laptop. Can I use ATItool normally? Or do I have to fix up this 2d/3d switching?

Since there's zero support for vista32 x1700 mobility drivers, I'm using some hacked ATI Catalyst 7.9 drivers. I did this a long time ago from laptopvideo2go.com iirc, but since then I've forgotten how to do driver updates. Would I need to fiddle w/ these drivers to enable this 2d/3d switching mode to enable overclocking the x1700? I just wanna OC safely with a minimum of fuss...

Thanks in advance.

Laptops already run hot, you will risk a dead laptop if you try to overclock this one. I would give it a shot only if you can monitor gpu temp.
