This is not supported by Vista. That is what is different here. In XP, it was supported. In Vista, it is not.

Thanks a ton, got it working now with 2 8800 GT's SLI and an 8400GS.

Its weird because at first i didn't think it was working so i turned on SLI visualization and re-enabled the other monitor. Sure enough it works +rep

The key is to disable the auxiliary card when switching between SLI and non-SLI. This should only be necessary when updating video drivers, so hopefully not too frequently because the number of restarts required.

Since it's obviously physically and theoretically possible, Nvidia should really make this easier for us.

Thanks for sharing your success. REP.

If you would kindly request screenies, I will be more than happy to oblige you.
May I request a picture of the result of your posted method? I'm indeed interested in SLI Dual Screen with maybe two 9600 GT's. A video clip of your machine, and your posted method would be lovely. You don't need to upload it to a hosted site, just attach it on your replyed post.

Picture: Two Moniters, primary moniter with simple 2D/3D Game, and the slave web surfing (EXAMPLE).

I would greatly appreciate it as I can't test it myself due to I haven't decided on CrossFire or SLI.

Thank You...

Oh... actually I just stepped-up my GX2 for a GTX280, but I plan on getting a second eventually and running in SLI. At that time, I will happily attach a photo.

How about this: I have some photos in my gallery. Take a look at THIS one. There's no game running, but the display - not the television - on the (far) left is my primary running the GX2. The secondary display is running off the 9600GT. I was running with SLI enabled on the GX2 (that's actually the GX2 displayed on the primary display).

Please understand: if you want to have multiple displays and SLI enabled on 9600GTs, you will have to have a total of THREE cards. One for the secondary display and two for SLI. If you only have two 9600GTs, you can have SLI - or - multiple display, but not both. Switching between the modes doesn't require a restart, but it does take several seconds. This method I've outlined precludes that.

I have no motivation to make this up.
