SAPPHIRE HD 3870

Hello to all members,
Firstly I transfered from Nvidia to Ati yesteday and I bought the product pictured above I was not clear to buy it but after some searching I really decided to have it and last nite I was so pleasure to have this vga card. I directly tried Crysis but it was natural mod tonite i m gonna reinstall it to see what s gonna happen with clean install After testing 8800gt sonic from Palit I can say there is no difference between two card and I heard many negative comments about the card but I think the best way is to have it and test it and then to decide what is the difference. For now on I am so glad to have especially economic side

Secondly, because of I am so new for ATI I would like to have your helps about this card and what can I do with it and also for ATI Catalyst . If you share your advices I will be so glad.

Thak you very much for your interest...

Very nice choice, I went with Sapphire's Toxic(it'll be here in a couple hours) because I was afraid of that heatsink and fan, just looks flimsy.

You should get ATITool to monitor temps and to OC. I've used it and it works great, but I haven't used CCC to OC yet.

Good luck with the card, properly cooled they hit around 900MHz, volt-mod it if your brave and it will see the almighty 1GHz.

thank you guys,
After seeing the performance I say it is powerful vga card. For now I dont think to OC cause I am really new in ATI. The thread is for that; first I want to have all the knowledge about the card from you and then I will try it. Cureently everything is stock and no OC but even like that the performance is ok. Ofcourse I say it according to old hardware. Maybe you can add some numbers to show me and others what is the difference between stock one and the OC one. I dont know why but Crysis is my testing game, I just can understand the difference between cards and system performance. I tried 8800gt sonic Palit and when I compare both card, thesame performance they have, indeed the graphics of HD3870 is better than 8800gt. I never expected that cause in most of the forums they give the tests they say 8800gt is better and HD3870 is not the vga card to compare but what i see is something different and what i do is with the same pc. I think this is a politics between companies. The truth is if I can have the same performance from the vga why should I pay more? Anyway maybe on the other hand they say Ati is week for drivers and Nvidia flies for drivers. My old vga was (still i have it but i m gonna sale it) Palit 8600gt sonic+ and it had a sticker to not remove the fan or other things for not being out of warranty. With my new HD 3870 everything is free no any sticker on it and the company says "we dont repair but we change with the new one" incase if any problem with the vga. That is also nice to know it. Hope guys you gonna go on to share your advices for me and for other hd 3870 users.

Thank you for your helps and comments...
PS: I am so excited to test my new HD 3870

Can you say me what numbers i can reach with stock things according to my system i have in my signature in stable way?

thank you very much.

well, temps are going to depend partly on your voltages. but you need higher voltages for higher clocks, and higher clocks still eat more wattage, with a single slot id say leave it stock. but if you are lucky and your core is binned well and stays under around 80C id say youd be perfectly save to OC it until it hits around 85C, a good bin should stay pretty healthy around there.

and yeah, this mod always proves effective :]

only setback is it makes for one hell of a massive video card.

I would suggest trying Assassin's Creed, it seems well suited for the 3870.

I play this game as a first step jumping to ATI I just compare 3870 and 8800gt and the result is really nice. Full detail and 1280x1024(this is my max resolution with my dell ) everything is fluent. I also installed the official patch 1.2.

When I read the comments above I just began to think to make some OC to my card but first I need to handle my north bridge temp problem. After that I will see what my card can do.

Thank you very much.

By the way If I wanna change my cooler on vga, what you preffer for me to have for a good stable OC?
Thank you again
