Once the Computex gong is sounded ye olde transistor lova, Intel will finally introduce a new mid-range chipset, the P45. As always the usual suspects already have motherboards based on the new chip designed and ready to roll. We've seen Asus, Gigabyte board and now we can see all of MSI's P45 products, no less than five motherboards set to cover quite a large price spectrum.

Since they use the same chip combo - P45 + ICH10R the boards share quite a few features including support for 45nm Core 2 Duo/Quad/Extreme CPUs, 7.1 channel audio, Gigabit Ethernet and at least six SATA ports. Three out of five boards, the P45 Diamond, P45D3 Platinum and P45 Platinum are CrossFire ready while the first two mentioned are equipped with DDR3 slots. All three DDR2 products feature support for DDR2-1200 memory while all five also share copper as the main "ingredient" in their cooling systems. The top-end P45 Diamond sets itself apart here as it has a waterblock installed on the northbridge while the rest make do with heatsinks. This one is also the most expensive P45 board from MSI and it can now be found with a price tag that goes over 210 Euro.

All five motherboards are expected to hit the stores before the end of this month.

Why does MSI always make their boards look like something made out of LEGO with a miniature roller-coaster bolted to it?
