Q6700 Oc

Thread Starter
My Q6700 is in the mail now. I was wondering if any one a Q6700, or knows much about it. I want to have a 24/7 3.0 ghz OC, on Tuniq Tower cooling. The stock speed is 2.66 ghz what should I make my voltage? I would like it to be as durable and stable as possible on a 3.0 ghz OC, If anyone has any tips on OCing feel free. Ive never oced before and I have no clue how to do it lol. All Ive got is a really locked up bios to look at and that doesn't even let me do anything. So all Ive got to do is watch the temps and crank up the voltages right? [prays] [i also assume im about to get owned by a tidal wave of knowledge]

3.0GHz is a small overclock; you'lll probably be just fine on stock volts.

And please: use some punctuation in your posts. It's a bit hard to read this way

I think you're about to get owned by a tidal wave of grammar corrections. In all seriousness and for the love of God, please use punctuation. I can barely follow what you're writing.

To basically answer your question, you could probably get 3 GHz with very little voltage increase on a Q6700.

You want to adjust the FSB in your BIOS. For a Q6700, there is a 10x multi so your looking for a 300MHz FSB to get 3.00 GHz. However, in the BIOS setup you usually have to enter the FSB multiplied by four (effective FSB), so in the FSB field you will enter 1200.

wow so Gone you've gotten this processor to 4.0 ... on air... now 3.0 is looking skimp.. but can you run the 4.0 24/7 because i just want to amp my processors up for gaming. But ive got a bad feeling about this over clocking business i don't think im going to stop and 3.0 and i might become obsessive

My 4 GHz OC wasn't 24/7 but I was able to bench with it. I know that 3.8 was easy to get 12+ Prime95 stable, but I haven't had a chance to tweak and try to get 3.9/4 GHz rock solid, because the volts required to keep it stable were approaching 1.5v.

When my board comes back from RMA (video corruption problem), I will probably stick with 3.8, which seems to be the sweet spot.
