What is this 8800GT with a dual slot cooler? (Not Akimbo)

Thread Starter
I'm still trying to decide whether or not to go 9600GT or 8800GT for my aunt's new build. I was just looking at the 8800GT's and I see this one from EVGA and it has a nice looking dual slot cooler, but it isn't the "Akimbo" version. Is this just a new solution from EVGA? It's $5 less than the regular version of the 8800GT with the single slot cooler.

*EDIT* My aunt's Q6600 build in case anyone is interested in checking it out.

Seen that yesterday.....seems cheap. I have the AKIMBO and it is of high quality.

looks like the 8800GTS 512 cooler to me... same mounting holes (both G92) so I don't really see any conflicting errors aside from maybe voltage regulator placement

Unless your aunt games, I would scrap the 8800gt for an 8500gt or embedded

Well it is a little complicated, but this video card is actually going into my grandpa's computer. He does play games. I built him a computer about 6-8 months ago and it has an EVGA 8600GTS 512MB SuperClocked version. The 8600GTS will go in my aunt's PC and grandpa will be getting the 9600GT or 8800GT, whatever I decide.
Normally I wouldn't suggest this, but a 9600GSO might be just the thing for him, or of course an 8800GT; but a $100 decent GSO is quite impressive.

What resolution does he play on, and what sort of games?

9600GSO for under 1280, and a 9600GT or 8800GT for over 1280.

Yeah, this looks to be just a different cooling solution for the 8800GT offered by EVGA. I commented on this last week.

Basically, for the 8800GT series from EVGA, you now have the normal single slot cooler; the dual-slot cooler for better cooling; and the AKIMBO cooler which has even greater cooling (note: the AKIMBO cooler by itself is $40.00).

Hope this helps

9600GSO for under 1280, and a 9600GT or 8800GT for over 1280.
Resolution is 1680x1050 on a Samsung 22" monitor. The most graphically intense game he plays right now is Battlefield 2, but I'm going to get him into COD4 and whatever future COD's might come out because he likes that series.

*EDIT* I was also thinking 7800GTX because I have one that I used to use in my main rig, but I since replaced it and it is just sitting in a box doing nothing. Would this be better than something like an 8500GT or 9600GSO? The price is certainly right, free haha. I cannot find the 9600GSO on NewEgg, when will it be available?

Are you planning on overclocking at all w/ your Grandpa's rig? If so, you should spring for the 8800GT AKIMBO...it gets some amazing overclocking results. Otherwise, just get the normal single-slot 8800gt.
