Need helping OC'n a e8400 CPU

Thread Starter
I'm trying to hit a stable OC of 4Ghz.
Motherboard is Asus Maximus Formula flashed with bios 1201
All motherboard chipsets are WC'd and so is CPU.
Ratio 450x9
Mem 900Mhz 6-6-6-18-2T 2.1v
Vcore 1.41 after the vdrop
NB 1.41
SB 1.1
FSBT 1.3

I can't even reach 3hrs in Orthos with JUST stress testing the cpu and not the ram. I did however reach 3hrs+ when I dropped my ratio to 425x9 with the NB set to 1.41 and the Vcore set to 1.4 but that crashed as well.

Please help me with this.

First go to "User CP", "Your Control Panel", "System information", "Edit System" and fill in your system as detailed as you can, that way it´s easier for us to help you.

It should be stable at that vcore but apparently not, maybe it´s from a bad batch?

Have you try to raise NB to~1,51 and FSB 1,40, are those "Spread Spectrum" disabled?

I am having the same problem and have essentially the same setup. I'm currently sitting at 412x9 with all voltages still set to auto. As soon as I start upping voltages I get errors, BSoD's and general instability. In my case I think my problem may be with my RAM. They refuse to operate at 1066, though they are not on the Asus QVL I don't believe. They are also detected as being PC6400 by BIOS as well as CPU-Z. I'm considering buying a 2x2GB kit of a different brand of memory to see if it's really what's limiting me.

Also my NB is running at 1.691v on auto settings , is this normal for 4x1GB?

Here's my new current settings in the bios.

Ratio: 425x9
Vcore: Bios 1.40v CPUZ 1.34v
Mem Timings: 6-6-6-18 2.0v 850Mhz
All other settings are set to auto.

Now with the very same config I had NB set to 1.41v and system would boot but orthos would report it unstable after 3 mins of running a stress test on just the ram so I tried increasing the NB volts and windows just wouldn't boot after that so I decreased and all was fine again so I tried orthos again and it went stable for 5 mins then stopped again.

This is when I decided to go auto with NB Volts and reboot. Now my NB is set to 1.63 and orthos is running stable on the stress test for ram only so far 15mins.

Now is having my NB set to 1.63v overkill for a 3.8Ghz or 4.0Ghz goal ?

Wow, I really do have an almost identical setup. I've been having the same exact problems that you've described so far, so hopefully someone can help.

OK guys try these things.
PCI freq to 100
CPU voltage to 1.36
CPU PLL to 1.6( I think, whatever is the highest green or the first yellow #)
NB 1.6( this is because you're running 4X1GB)
FSB 1.2
SB auto
CPU GTL ref 0.63
NB GTL ref 0.67
Try that, and make sure to set your RAM voltage, don't leave it on auto.

If this is your RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148076
look under specs. It says for these they should be 2.2v.

Check the specs for the 800Mhz RAM, I know for mine it's 2.2v for 1066.
