The 8800GTX is usually better @ 1680x1050+ and AA/AF. But the 9800GTX is very close.

The problem is finding an 8800GTX for a decent price. They are becoming very scarce.

IMHO, If price-to-performance is important, you may want to consider 8800GTS G92 512MB. It performs within 5% of a 9800GTX on average (and therefore, very near an 8800GTX as well). Some factory OC'd editions can be had for less than $200 after MIR.

Again, for all the reasons stated above, the 8800GTX. At your resolution, with IQ turned up, it is significantly better than a 9800GTX.

Nah man the GTX is MUCH better then the G92 512MB especially for his needs. I've seen people on these forums selling a few of them off and on. They seem to be able to be gotten for a decent amount these days on eBay and Newegg. The Ultra's on the other hand haven't dropped down much at all.

8800GTX... its better at 1920x1200 resolutions than the 9800GTX in almost all games.

8800GTX: 384 bit bus
9800GTX: 256 bit bus, not enough for higher resolutions.

If you are going to be rude atleast read the thread, no one here is talking about the GX2. This is a 8800GTX and 9800GTX thread.

8800gtx ftw. 384-bit mem interface over the 9800gtx's 256. It really does well at high resolutions like 1920x1200.

the 9800 series should have been named the 8750 series.

Don't be ridiculous. Of course we can comment objectively on cards even if we don't own them. We can rely on trusted review sites and benchmarks to back our claims. That's why they exist. With all due respect, there's a lot more reason for the OP to trust users here (who can back their statements on information from trusted review sites), than you, a single person that has so far made claims with no evidence or proof.

3DMark scores do not tell us how cards will perform in individual games at different detail levels/resolutions. They can be somewhat of an indicator, sure. But they don't always relate to actual gaming performance. So that's why we use info from the review/benchmark sites who test the hardware in actual games. That's how we know how they perform in, well, you guessed it... the actual games.

Well, if apply some AA I should say 8800GTX have the upperhand but then again it depends on what game and what level of quality you play.

Have you read this article at Hardocp, they test 9800GTX SLI vs 8800GTX SLI vs 9800GX2 vs ATI HD 3870 X2 with games like Crysis, Clive Barker’s Jericho and Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and I most say, it´s close.

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?...50aHVzaWFzdA==

Someone might be interrested in the following.

I tested 8800GTX SLI with Crysis Benchmark Tool at 1600x1200 High Q 0xAA vs 4xAA with my Striker Extreme Rig (using XP Home SP2, DX9), just to check how much video memory was used, I logged it with Everest and outcome was this:

0xAA 446

4xAA 642

Here´s a similary test but with my Rampage Rig (singel 8800GTX)

1900x 1200 High Q

0xAA 447

4xAA 639

1920x1080 High Q

0xAA 447

4xAA 639

I guess 9800GTX had choke on that one.

I have not test 9800GTX so I try to be objective but I think 8800GTX have the upperhand thou.

If benchmarks are showing the truth about games then Ati cards had to be the best game performance cards
You can look at this Link
