This comp will not stay stable

Thread Starter
I built this computer for my girlfriend and i cannot get it to stay on, it boots, goes to the windows xp splash screen and then before the logon screen comes on, i see a blue screen for less than a second, i cant make out what it says. here are the system specs.

Athlon Be-1200
Asus M2V-MX SE AM2 Motherboard
1 gb. PQI turbo memory ddr2
250 gb. Western Digital Sata 3.0gb Drive
Apevia 500 watt psu.

I dont understand why this is not working. Someone help me plz.

Also, i forgot to mention, i loaded windows onto the hard drive with no problems, as well as installed all of the drivers for it, and it just started acting this way earlier on after all this was done, I also had no problems during installation either.

Trumionkatilot, was everything working great right after the XP installation? If you started noticing problems after a driver install then perhaps that is causing the BSOD's at startup. I'd recommend restarting the computer and going into safe mode(F8 key after POST). If your able to get in (which you should) then start uninstalling the "suspected" driver. You can also turn off automatic restart by right clicking on "My Computer" and going to Properties -> Advanced tab -> Settings button next to Startup and Recovery. Under System Failure uncheck "Automatically restart". This way if you get a BSOD you can write down the error message. Sometimes that can also be helpful when troubleshooting.

Let us know if that works

Good luck

Yeah, sorry for the delay on the responce... after i worked with the comp some more i found out it was indeed the ram. before the computer stopped booting, my girlfriend did say that everytime she started a program, whether it be firefox, IE, or windows media player, the program would load and then terminate without warning. Ive got some corsair on the way. Never again with PQI

Turmionkatilot, according to PQI's RMA website, "brand computer memory modules" have a lifetime warranty. Perhaps maybe you can return them for a new set. That's if of course they were purchased on or after Auguest 1st, 2006(so says the website).

Good luck

dont even bother. I already sent an RMA through Newegg and I already got replacement name brand ram i know i can trust. My Corsair XMS2 Module came in yesterday and it works alot better than the PQI did when it actually worked right.
