But the LT and UT boards are higher quality? Not that it'll make much of a difference, but I'd like to know.

True but also pay more. At some points, need to justify that extra $100 of board that comes with fancy NB/SB cooling and 8-phare power etc may be able to produce extra 100MHz.

May I suggest the Intel DX48BT2.

I'm gonna go against everyone and say F the DFI board. The best combo ive used thus far is the E8400/8500 and the gigabyte X38 DS4 I promise it will do all that the DFI will and with a whole lot less work. It took my quad to over 4.3 and my dual to over 4.7

Indeed, the X38 –DS4 is a very good basic x38 board around $200. I used three of them to build rigs for others in the past few months. They work great. I didn't get phones from them like other boards did (mess up BIOS options).

What is the difference between the X38 and X48? I thought X48 was compatible with newer CPUs that the X38 is not?

Any idea if the Tuniq Tower 120 will fit on the DK? The extra power phases just allow finer control over the CPU voltage, correct?

Be aware though, I had to return my DK x38 board because it wouldn't run RAID-0 on the southbridge plus two storage drives and a dvd drive. I had two raptor SATA150, a WD 250gb SATA150, a seagate SATA300 and a samsung DVD burner SATA300. With the raptors in RAID0, I couldn't run my Seagate storage drive or my samsung dvd writer. The DK series didnt like all the combinations of my drives. I'm not even sure why. so I'm going to have to order something better. Right now it's looking like the UT x48 due to the lower profile cooling solution and it having the JMicron RAID controller in addition to the southbridge solution. I also have a tuniq tower so I'll have to go with the lower profile cooling.

On the DK X38 or X48? The X48 has 6 SATA ports, all of which I use.

I am switching among DFI, Gigabyte and Abit boards to see which one works better with Q6700. It fits in the DFI board but need some mods in my case. I also need to take away the side fan from my 900. Regarding the extra power phases, yes, it increases stability.

So any suggestions other than the DFI LP X48 DK? That is the front-runner right now for me since I won't be utilizing a 24/7 max overclock so stability isn't the prime issue if I only get 100MHz more by spending $100 more.

Onto the CPUs... It looks like the E8400 is my choice for dual cores, but what about quads? Is the Q6700 better than the Q6600 for overclocking? What about the new 45nm quads? I am liking the price and specifications for the Q9450.
