Well my Q6600 is at 4 Ghz. So with 4 cores, that equals 16Ghz total.

Linux thinks my 3.6GHz Q6600 (450x8) is currently running at 4.05GHz (450x9). So I think it's a hardware issue. I'm going to investigate further.

A timing test reading the supposedly constant TSC also comes up with 4.05GHz.

I'm fairly sure I'm NOT running at 4.05GHz! I'll come back after I get into Intel's programming manuals and read some CPU registers.

Edits:

Hm, lshw shows roughly the right speed (3612MHz, 452MHz FSB). And the MSR reports an 8x multi. I don't know what's up with the TSC.
