Unlinked RAM

Thread Starter
How for apart before you start to lose performance can i go with the ram unlinked from the cpu. I have it now with CPU FSB 1400 and RAM FSB at 1200 but when there matched and both at 1333 its way faster but i bsod after like 2 hours iwent with looser timings but it didnt seem to work. So is there a certain number to keep the FSB of CPU and RAM at?

my cpu is like at 1700 and my ram is unlinked at 800. I love this feature. I dont notice any performance loss.

I remember my amd rig mayde me chose. Either the Ram was to high or to low messing up my overclock.

Ok so i should opt for a lower RAM frequency for a higher CPU clock? So does that mean lower RAM frequency tighter or looser timings?

Try and run low ish frequency, tight timings, and 1T.

1800 FSB, unlinked, with a memory speed of 850mhz (4-4-4-12 1T) and I had a bandwidth of 10,200 mb/s.

Nvidia chipsets love the 1T and low timings, lower speed.

You usually get slightly increased in bandwidth and slightly decrease in latency if you go unlinked and use the known dividers as 1:2, 2:3, 3:5, 4:5, 5:6, 5:8 then with 1:1 unless you can go 1T or very tight timing with Nvidia´s Intel chipset.

Going outside the known dividers tend to get decrease in bandwidth and increase in latency with Nvidia´s Intel chipset.

Here´s example run with Striker Extreme and DDR2 but it should be similary with DDR3.

As you see going 800 4-4-4 2T is no good, it´s is way better with 1T. If you go linked and sync try go with 1T.

If I use FSB 400 I should go with either 800 1T, 1000 2T or 1200 2T
If I use FSB 450 I should go with either 1080 2T or 1200 2T, if I had managed to go 1T with 900 I had probably go with it.

If you go linked and sync try go with 1T otherwise go as high as possible with memspeed.

You run DDR3 so it may be different so you have to test it, go with Everest 4.50, use "Cache & Memory Benchmark".

Cheers
