New Watercooling. opinions?

Thread Starter
ima noobie to water cooling and know very little about it so i figured id post this and see what you guys think.

i recieved this for free and have run it for about month but i decided on getting a kit form Petra's Tech Shop.(i know i exaggerated a little on the temps )

i was looking at his one here: http://www.petrastechshop.com/pecoel.html

i was thinking of opting for the MCR320 and another fan to keep things cooler. what im not sure on is what speed fan would be good for OC'n a Q6600 @ 3.6 pumping 1.5vcore through it(taking into consideration fan noise). would the medium fan speed be sufficient?

i have also heard of inserts for the fuzion blocks for quad cores and was wondering how benifical they are and if they are worth it. also, im unsure if these inserts fit in the V2 block.

concerning tubing im unsure about the clamps. are the clamps that come with the kit reliable enough to not leak or should i look elsewhere for clamps?

how about reservoirs? do they make it easier or no? if so, would i need a different pump than the one included in the kit?

and finally, is there anything im missing or anything i should add to the kit?

thanks in advance

That is a solid kit but for about that same price you can build a better loop with a better pump and rad (also from petras if you want).

If you do decide on that kit, go with the higher speed fans. You can always use a fan controller to tone them down when at Idle but a Quad at 1.5v puts out a LOT of heat.

The Quad insert IS worth it, it definately helps if you're using a quad.

The Clamps that come with that kit are all you need, they work great. For the most part you won't even need any clamps as the 7/16" ID tubing fits really snug over 1/2" barbs but the clamps will add that piece of mind.

You may want to consider a Resevoir instead of the t-line that comes with the kit but that's just personal preference. Good Luck.

EDIT: In case you're wondering of other options as I mentioned, here is a self put together kit you could use and would yield you better results.

Block: Fuzion v2 - $65 - http://www.petrastechshop.com/dfuv2uncpuwa.html
Rad: GTS 360 - $60 - http://www.petrastechshop.com/hwlablicegts1.html
Pump: MCP655 - $80 - http://www.petrastechshop.com/dadenlad5in1.html
Resevoir: Swiftech Micro Res - $20 - http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmchire.html
Fans: Sunon 110CFM - $32 - http://www.petrastechshop.com/12x38sukddob.html

Then you could add the additional accessories like coolant, tubing, clamps etc.

Everything looks good except I'd go with the variable speed pump for $5 more as it's more powerful, and the pump is very important. Also, if your must use a 240 rad on your Quad you may want better fans so I'd go with 120x38 Sunon's or Panaflos. Your tubing is correct.

kkbob go with the list you came up with, not the kit. As you said it's cheaper and you get a much better pump which many believe to be the most important part of the loop. As I said though get the variable speed one for $5 more, it's definately worth it.
