3.6 not happening for me. Can someone Help me get to at least 3.4? - Page 2

So I should probably get a Side fan for this antec 900 case to top off those temps. I really dont wanna keep the side panel off hahaha, my last rig was doomed to that fate. would i have the fan blowing out hot air or having it take cool air in? I heard Scythe is a good brand of fan. Any particular model?

gibson, so what you are sayin is once this thing hits 71c it will shut down the computer? Ive seen some people write in forums about how theyve seen this thing get up to like 80c+ not that i am doubting you, cause i remember reading on this forum how that was the official temp from intel (71c)

I appreciate the help fellas.
My target is to get this thing around 60 or so for load. I havent lapped it yet, as im still about halfway through reading that guide. And no pencil mod as of yet either. I would like to get the temp stabilized at a "not-so-suicidal" temp before I go to the point of no return on those warranties.

**EDIT** here is a screenshot of things the way they are right now

http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05172008/b0953.png

Prime95 runnin solid for 6 hours. Should i leave it running or shut it down and wait till i get a side fan to do an all night stress test?

well someone must have turned off the a/c or something cause it reached 72c then i got the error after 10 hours. so im thinkin this will be stable as soon as i order a side case fan. ULTRA KAZE is the one i was lookin at. Does anyone know if that will fit for the antec 900's side panel?

And the reason the prime95 error occurred is because it got too hot right? i mean after 10 hours of being stable below 71c and the moment it goes over it fails, wouldn't it be a safe assumption that purchasing a fan would help it stay stable at this speed?

If the Side panel of that case can take a 120mm fan, then yes it will. Be warned, that is a VERY loud fan. (Then again, depends on which one you got, I have a 3000rpm one and it sounds liek a plane taking off.)

You could try reseating and adding a washer around the circle on the heatsink(more pressure),it reduce my temps 2-3 degrees.

i've never heard a stress test fail becaus the temperature was to high, a stress test fails when you're CPU makes a faulty calculation while running the program, and as far as i know temperature doesn't have any effect on that...
If prime95 failed it basicly means your cpu isn't 100% stable, but seeing it only happend after 10 hours don't really think it minds that much

well last night while i was out i decided to turn the thermostat down to like 52 in the apartment and leave prime95 running all day. when i got back i was very pleased with what i saw

http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05192008/b050465a.PNG

I would have let it run longer but there was major drama with the roommates over the air conditioning the last week or so ever since i started overclocking this thing

18hours and no errors is pretty solid right?

Hopefully that fan comes soon so I don't have to chisel ice off the door handles when i wanna leave to go somewhere lol

And someone suggested i clean up the wires a bit for better airflow. Anyway, I thank you guys for helping me do this and all your input. I actually learned a lot of stuff that i didn't know experimenting with this.

As far as reseating the cooler. I think what im gonna do is wait till i get a new powersupply and i can tighten up all the cords, then tilt that zalman so the exhaust goes up and out of the top instead of out of the back. ill definitely try the washer idea before i lap them, thank you Reezin14. Any suggestion on size? bending that s-clip more wont make it close to breakin will it? or is that clip pretty strong?

The washer is 7/8's in length and has a 1/2'in' circle in the middle. The s-clip won't break they are pretty sturdy it may flex, but just a little.Congrads on keeping it cool while stressing.

I know this is kinda ghetto but it did shave about 6c off my max temp under full load (SmallFFT) doing this

http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05262008/ae99a1d7c22.jpg

http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05262008/6b4f62.jpg

I have it sitting right above the air conditioner vent LOL. And a pane of glass to divert the air into the scythe side fan

Here were my temps before
http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05192008/b050465a.PNG

Here is after
http://img1.hugeup.com/f/05302008/c1045e.png

So I got an average of 4c - 6c drop. Just a little something to help until I can get a wire efficient psu and lap the cpu/hsf. And surprisingly enough, the glass kinda kills some of the sound traveling this way that the scythe puts out. Its win/win !! Now while im sure not everyone has the setup or arrangement in their computer room for this. Those who are near the threshold on their overclock and can accommodate this method, should give it a try. Having it on my desk was bringing me close to 70 Under load easily now that its gettin hotter where I live, so this was a last act of desperation and it paid off

Fitting an Ultra Kaze in as a side panel fan may be a problem, at least if you're mounting it to the inside of the panel, because the Ultra Kaze is 38mm depth, rather than the usual 20-25mm. There might not be enough room between the side panel and your cpu heatsink.

Having said that, you may want to try it out as your cpu heatsink fan, or as your exhaust fan.

@khameleon

Hey dude I have the same board as you and was trying to OC to 3.6g aswell in another thread here on OC.net

Last night I found out how to get 3.6ghz stable I had to set my voltages at
1.5v Vcore
1.4v fsb
2.125v memory this is my memorys setting dont do it to yours
1.4 NB
1.5 SB

No other voltages I tried worked but 1.5 vcore and 1.4 fsb/Nb it seems a little high on the Vcore but my bios shows the actual voltage is 1.44v

I plan on doing the pencil vdroop mod today when I get home from work so that when I set my vcore to 1.45 the actual voltages reflect that setting better.
