Lap My ipod?

Thread Starter
hey ocn,

my 5g video's back is looking a little shoddy after 2.5 years of use and i was wondering if i could lap it back to it's former glory.

i bought an easypckits lapping kit a while back and lapped my 3600+ with it but never opened the polishing compound that came with it.

i'm thinking i'll start with 2000 grit or something and then go to the compound, what do you guys think?

If you do, be extremely careful, the metal layer on that thing is extremely thin... I would honestly go get a can of Brasso and a lint free cloth and go to town. Even though brasso is a metal polisher, it works well on the polycarbonate plastic ipod cases...

buying a new backplate would be the best option, but if you want to try just be extremely careful. Use the finest grit sandpaper you can find, 2000 or above should work, and very very very very gently sand and then polish it. Dont use any auto sanders or polishers, they will be to rough. Do the sanding by hand and use like a super smooth silk like cloth for the polishing.
