New AMD user needing OC infor on X2 4050E

Thread Starter
I've never owned an AMD pc before and I am oblivious to overclocking when it comes to AMD. This build is for my dad, he needs a new pc for his office at a low cost, wants it quiet, and fast.

The basic usage of the computer will be e-mail, writing reports, watching ultrasounds (high resolution video), high network usage, blah blah, basic stuff he might need a pc for in the medical profession.

I was thinking AMD because of their prices at the moment and I am impressed by the results of the 780G chipset which should eb good for what he wants to do.

I was thinking an X2 4050E processor paired with a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H AMD 780G mATX AM2+ motherboard.

If easily and reliably done I would like to overclock this processor if its worth the speed bump. I had it easy with my E6420, its running 3.2ghz on stock voltages.

Is the 4050E a good choice and do you think overcloking with this mATX would work well? I need advice. Oh, and do I need anything over 380W in terms of a PSU?

Amd is like intel when it comes to overclocking. The only true difference is you have to divide the Hyper transport Bus. Keep it @ 1000 or less.

so how far do you think i could get this thing. would it be a better idea to pay $20 more for the 4850E which has 2.5ghz stock instead of a new heatsink?

That looks like a good combo. I would recommend maybe getting a Radeon 3850 Video Card with it, especially if he's gonna be looking @ high-resolution video. You might be alright with a 380w PSU, but I would recommend at least 550w, just to be safe. Let us know what you decide.

Good combo and you can OC the OB video with that MB.
Do you want mATX because they make a full ATX one too?
What brand and model is the PSU,not all 380's are created equal.
