Normally when you Crossfire two cards together (or SLI, I think), you can consider some of the VRAM to be "wasted" because textures need to be loaded into the VRAM for each of the cards in order for them to render the scene. The rumor was that there would still be 2 GPU's, but they would be able to access the same VRAM through an external memory controller so there would be no need for duplicating textures or other game assets. Theoretically, this would improve performance because there would be no VRAM overhead for having more than one card.
Would this be exclusive just to the 4870X2 or is it a global xFire thing?? e.g. Would 2 4870's in xFire take advantage of this?
