I have Media center on my desktop and use my 360 as an extender thus totally negating the need for a PC dedicated to media center duties.

All up to preference really. I had a PS3 and it was great when I had it. I sold it though as it was not getting used enough. I am however going for the Xbox 360...due to the fact its cheaper and to be hones all my mates have a 360 so multiplayer will be fun.

Well, I bought a 360 on Saturday last week and I have to say its great, I've had no problems with media either since I just use Windows Media Connect to share files with my Xbox and voila.

How is that? All my media is on my PC and my Xbox is in another room connected to my PC via network for when I want to watch movies and listen to music on my HDTV. Theres nothing redundant about it.

Depending on how you rip and encode movies or whatever, it could be easier to play through the PS3... there are actually movies that I have only been able to play through my PS3. And I do own both consoles... I think the PS3 was a bit easier with media.

Actually, Media will play better on a PC. Because the PS3 still doesnt support all formats. Most of the time I can stream any format through TVersity no problem. I'm actually considering on building a Media PC at the moment, of course I would still share it with the ps3's. It wont be very expensive, considering I have mostly what I need already laying around.
