Touch Pad not working

Thread Starter
Ok for some reason my touch pad on my laptop is not working any more. Not even the right and left click is working. What could be the deal? I did take my laptop apart and put it back together but it was working when I put it back together.

That was back in February. Now about a week and a half ago my touch pad and buttons don't work. I tried downloading a driver from the hp site and that doesn't work. I went to the mouse settings in Control Panel and it does not show the mouse hardware in there There is an option to reset the mouse but when i click it, the screen freezes and then i just blue screen.

I then proceeded to use the recovery discs that i made but not even those restore the mouse back to working condition. I then went to add hardware and it doesn't show up there nor do i have any question marks. What gives? Do touch pads just die instantly?

I can how ever use a usb mouse and the keyboard still works. Even though the KB plugs into somewhere separate on the Mobo.

Have you tried taking it apart again and making sure all the connections are connected properly?

yea but one of the screws were stripped that i need to get out. So at the moment i don't have the tools to lift the keyboard up. But how would it just come loose like that?

Well, you did take it apart, so maybe the mouse cord got ripped out/you put it in wrong?
These are both guesses, but from what you seem to be experiencing it seems to be a connection issue between the mouse and motherboard/rest of computer.

Is the touchpad by Synaptic? If it is, try visiting their website and use their drivers.

I did. But the thing is, regardless whether i use their drivers or not. The mouse pad will still work. all the drivers do is enable to special features of the mouse. But the basic workings for mice are universal. Hence why you can plug a usb mouse into your desktop and or laptop and have it work without software.

But the thing is, it isn't even showing up in device manager.

Sad to say, but you may have to purchase a new touchpad. I had a similar problem with my Averatec 6200, and I wound up buying a new top panel. It's worth a shot if you still like the laptop. I also had my keyboard go out on me twice, lol. It sucks, but it feels good making your laptop come to life again, even if it is three years old or more.
