q6600 cup clock changing between 3600 and 2400 MHZ while im in the OS

Thread Starter
I have a Q6600 and I've changed it to the following

1.5v 3600MHz (9x400MHz)

Ram: 1066 Dominator running at

2.2v 400MHz 5-5-5-18

mother board 780i (just bought it)

I'm sitting here looking at Everest flip back and forth between reading it as

2400MHz and 3600MHz (2400MHz of course being what it was originally)

any idea why? How or to fix this?

Turn off Speedstep

It slows down the processor to save power. You turn it off in BIOS. C1E is its name somtimes.

Like others have said you should disable intel speed step. It is called c1e, EIST, intel speed step. My board for example has c1e and EIST.

Intel speedstep lowers your processors speed when you don't need all of its power. This helps save energy and reduce heat to the processor. It works by lowering your processors multiplier to 6x. Then when you start using the processing power again it raises the multi back up and the processor runs at the faster speed.

Simple, very simple.

You could easily see, every time you put some stress on the CPU, you would see the speed jump back up to 3.6Ghz. So it really doesn't matter if you have it on or off.

Well it does matter a little bit. It takes time, even though its very short to switch back and forth between the speeds. I wouldn't say it affects you too much though.

And it won't effect the RAM because it throttles the multiplier and not the FSB.
