Memtest runs before your computer tries to boot into the operating system, as long as the memtest CD is in the DVD drive when the computer turns on. So burn it to a CD or DVD using a friend's computer, then stick it into your DVD drive. Turn on the computer and it should boot to Memtest86+, assuming you have your boot order set to CD ROM before HDD. I believe it runs automatically, but you may need to push a button to start it. Let us know if you can't get it to work. If it can pass tests 1-6, the memory is probably ok.

That's right. If he activated the Vista with another hardware setup. The Vista is looking at the difference in hardware points. It probably thinks it's a completely different computer. Might have to get on the phone with Microsoft and explain, and HOPE they give you a different activation code.
Vista only allows ONE installation per hardware setup. Thanks Bill!

if that were the case, he would just get the screen saying that he does not have a genuine version of vista. if you call up microsoft, they should release the CD key for the right reasons, but i dont think thats the case in this situation, he should get far enough for it to tell him the key isn't valid/genuine

Are you using the same Hard Drive? Attempting to install over a previous Vista install?

yeah. >.< I just see the loading screen and then a BSOD.

Um, the hard drive is clean with no data on it. I'm thinking I either have faulty RAM or a faulty HD. So, memtest will help if someone can hook me up.
