All from Newegg:
  • COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $84.99
  • EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard $189.99
  • XFX PVT88GYDF4 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card $239.99
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $129.99
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 $198.99
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ $169.98
  • 2X Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $139.98
  • Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler $49.99
Subtotal: $1,203.90

Plenty powerful for now, and the option to add a second 8800GTS 512MB for SLI.

An additional $21 will get you a Q6600.

Also, do shop around. The PSU, for example, can be had cheaper at www.buy.com

I am assuming that a 64-bit OS (whether it be linux, XP 64-bit or Vista) is a given.

Nice with the quickness! I've heard alot people say that its better to just get 8800GT's?

ALSO thats not 8 gigs >

Lets say we can't go with a GTS...

The GTS has a performance edge.

But heck, let's go for the GT, just for the sake of discussion
  • Transformer IC-TR-BA Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case $75.99
  • EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard $189.99
  • 2X (YES SLI BABY!) XFX PVT88PYDF4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card $359.98
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $109.99
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 $198.99
  • 2X G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ $169.98
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $59.99
  • Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler $49.99
Subtotal: $1,214.90

Slashed a hard drive, got a slightly smaller one (250GB), saved a couple bucks on the case, settled for a 650W PSU (still plenty power), and that allowed me to even go SLI with the 8800GTs!

How 'bout that

If you want the RAID back, cut 4GB RAM, which is actually my recommendation.

If he doesnt want to Raid I would get the 640 Gb WD. They are supposed to be really fast for a single drive, my backup went out and I think I may be getting one as my families backup.
