psu recommendation

Thread Starter
Im in the process of building a new machine with a core 2 quad q9300, an EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 (nforce 750i), 4gb of CORSAIR DOMINATOR DDR2 1066, a 7600gs, a single 400gb sata drive, antec 900 case, all with stock cooling. Is a 650 watt PSU going to be enough or should i bump it up to 700...btw the psu im looking at is a COOLER MASTER RS-650-ACAA-A1 650W. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171023)

advice would be much appreciated

I'd recommend the Corsair TX750w @$95 over that PSU. Although with that setup you don't need that much power, but it would be future-proof for SLI.

What are your future plans for graphics cards? I would say this for your setup and it should cover you even if you upgrade the gpu. If you ever plan on going sli with higher end cards, you will need some more power.

750W is overkill imo. a good quality 550-650W should do it. PSU Calculator

Im not planning on doing sli at the moment. maybe a 8800gts in a few months. also the 650w works well even with my planned overclock to about 2.8ghz maybe a little better. I couldnt find anything to the contrary does the q9300 require a secondary power connection?

thanks

p.s. thanks for the calculator Brythe.

It's a great PSU and it's also Modular.

I'm also running the Q9300.

The real power series of PSU is a pretty good product line. Based on the description, a good 450W PSU should be fine unless you will upgrade soon. $70 Corsair 550vx.
