It seems to me that NVIDIA is purposely holding back the 8 series to promote the 9 series. Either that or the 9600 benefits from lower resolutions alot more than the 8800s. If I run 1024x768 and then 1280x1024 at 3.2ghz with a single 8800GTX I actually get LESS on 1024x768, by about 500pts. Makes me wonder what you get at 1280x1024.

He's running at lower than standard resolution.

The score is 100% normal and 100% believable for his system.

You shouldn't be getting less.

Regardless, the performance advantage of the 8800GTX's memory bandwidth and extra ROPs is going to decrease at lower resolutions.

Mkdir, if you can please run 3dmark06 again on 1280x1024 please. I am building a budget rig for my brother and want to see what kind of performance a 9600GT can push out. I am building him somewhat of the same rig as you. Thank you.

Thread Starter
ok second run on everything default and i actually got a lower score than my first one...then things starting to get weird...my SLI was enabled, but then when i checked my CPU i found that my HT link was WAY too low, it was on x1...so i put it to x4 and did a third run and then i end up with 11320...is that normal or it can improve?

I scored over 13000 with my 9600GT and it was only overclock'd to a 785mhz core. I think a score over 13000 @ 800mhz core is very believable.

Nice score there. What type of games do you play and at what resolution on your 9600? I am trying to see if I should buy one for my brothers new build.
