160w? If these cards use the 6-pin PCI-e connector, they don't pull more than 150w, period. 75w from the PCI-e slot, 75w from the 6-pin connector, nothing more is supported. And realistically speaking they shouldn't even be too close to that, since if it was actually that close, the card would likely use an 8-pin or dual 6-pin connectors.

Exactly. I guess people want the max performance for about $200. GL getting that with nvidia. Their cards will be a little faster but will cost over $100 more as usual.

unless it is pci-e 2.0, which is 150 watts in itself.

PCI-e 2.0 does provide additional voltage, but you're right, if the card really needed that much power, they would have slapped on an extra connector for older MBs, unless they plan to limit the card to PCI-e 2.0 boards (which would be ridiculous).

I think since they want to maintain compatibility with older boards, they have the video card receive power like they do with 1.0 even though they are 2.0 compatible.

I do know that PCI-SIG specced PCI-e 2.0 out to be able support more power through the PCI-e slot, but isn't that up to the motherboard manufacturer to support a feature like that? I thought it was a great idea when I first read about it - imagine running a card as powerful as the 8800GT without the need for an external connection, that would be great.

Back on topic, I think the issue is that PCI-e 2.0 does support more power, but it doesn't inherently provide it.
