AMD Phenom 9850 BE

Thread Starter
Is this worth getting?

Im am currently running a 3.2Ghz AMD athlon 64 x2 6400+

I have been trying to overclock the processor but due to cooling restrictions i havent gotten very far.

I have been told that the 6400 is a hot running CPU, would the Phenom be better?

Thoughts and opinions please people

Thank you in advance

the amd 6400 x2 is a good cpu it can run hot due to it's 125W needed to run but with a good cooler it will run good. if you upgraded to a Phenom you would see a good improvement. IMO you need to upgrade the 8500GT if you play games

I agree with A Russian, the 6400 is actually a pretty good processor in gaming benchmarks, if anything, upgrade ur vid card cuz that will be what holds u back before the processor upgrade does anything

seconded, ~60% of PC games utilize one core only

Just get a better fan.

Lol, your machine is horrifically top heavy. You need a better GPU, your CPU will run like a pro! I suggest the HD 3870 or a card from the HD 4000 line. 9600GT would be a nice choice too if your an nVidia fan.

Also, since i noticed ur motherboard is a crossfire mobo, u could wait for ATI's 4 series or if you want to spend that much get a 3870(s) or 3850(s) if u want to crossfire. just a thought
