TheStig, the Sapphire 3870 512MB is going for under $160. I believe your budget falls under that price.

What kind of 400W power supply are you running? (brand/model)

Good luck

TheStig, you may have to replace it. Video cards such as the 3850, 3870, 8800GT and such require at least 30 amps on the 12volt rail for total system power. If your 400w ICute is anything like the 420w model I just read about on pcstats.com then you may have stability/power issues with running a higher end video card.

If your budget permits let us know and we can help you pick out a PSU.

Good luck

I was runing my 6000+ @ 3.553 ghz, and it ran great. I swapped it out with a 9850BE and @ 2.8 ghz it smokes the 6000+ @ the higher clock.

With the 6000+ in my sig rig my 3Dmark06 score was 14686 with a CPU score of 2744. With the 9850 BE in the same rig it scored 16484 and a CPU score of 4512.

I have it running at 3.0 now and very stable.
I think its a all around better CPU for my gaming rig...

If you have the time I might wait until the newer boards come out with the new SB 780 southbridge that will allow better overclocking ability. If not then form what I can tell the main ones use are ASUS listed in By-Tor's sig, the one listed in my sig and the DFI Lan Party and there is a good Gigabyte board. As for which on is best, well that is kinda subjective.

As far as an article, I do not have one, but at this link there are alot of different discussions on the different boards.

The K10 is a improvment above the K8.
I don't know the offical numbers, but a 2.1Ghz K10 beats a 2.6Ghz K8.
So a 3GHZ K10 is fast.
