Hello all.

For the last year, I have been running my E6420 at 2.8GHz. In the last few weeks I tried to improve that and I think basically I made a bit of a hash of it as I managed to corrupt my windows install.

So I have come here in aid of assistance. Basically, I'm gonna format, return everything to stock, and start from scratch, and would like some input as to the way to approach things.

I have turned off all the features that I should such as Execute Disable Bit, Enhanced Intel Speedstep etc. So I think the only two sets of things I can change are voltages and fsb+memory. The following options I have are:

Voltages:

vCore: Auto, think stock is 1.36V (VID is 1.35v)
Memory: 2.08v
NB core: Auto (not sure what stock value is)
vCore offset: Auto

FSB and Memory Configuration: (memory has timing of 4-4-4-12, rest is auto)

FSB-Memory clock mode: Unlinked
FSB-Memory Ratio: Auto
FSB: 1066 (stock)
MEM: 800
Multiplier: 8


My main questions are:
1. What shall I set the NB to, is auto ok? (I dont have any cooling on it apart from the stock heatsink and I wont be getting any)

2. Is the max safe temp for my chip 60c and 1.5v vcore?

3. Is it simply a case of upping FSB until unstable, then adding one notch of vcore? Or should I start playing with multipliers and changing timings and such?

4. Anything else I should do?
