Ive been seeing alot of people OC there Q6600 with an 8 multi instead of a 9 multi. is this best for optimal OC? What is the reasonfor using 8 multi opposed to 9?

some people use the 8x multi instead because it helps them get over the fsb hole.

Depends. More than likely it will be the higher multiplier but sometimes the FSB can be bumped high enough to pass the higher multiplier.

Some people also use a higher multiplier to be able to get a higher ram speed if they cant unlink it.

Usually a lower multi is used to maximise their memory bandwidth.

since 3.6 is pretty much my CPU's limit. 9x400 or 8x450 gets me there.
I chose the latter to get my RAM up to 900MHz (synchronous with CPU)

Sometimes at a certain FSB there is an anomaly known as a FSB hole, it will simply not POST regardless of what voltage you throw at it. It's board dependant, although seems to occur more commonly in the 1500QDR range.

I like my memory fast and speedy so i dropped my multiplier to x8 from x12 to get the most out of my FSB (FSB is WAY more important than CPU speed). But I experinced that FSB hole, i wanted to go at 333 x9 but no matter what it didnt wanna stabilize, but now at 350 i'm perfect
