Q6600 B3 @ 70C on stock clocks

Thread Starter
Yup thats right, 70C on stock clocks, under heavy load. It idles around 60C. I have a Zalman CNPS9700 LED with a proper application of AS5. Im just sure what do to. Ambient temps are between 35C and 37C (our AC is broken here in Cali). Im wondering if there is any better cooler out there that can help. I've only got $100 to spend, so water cooling is probably out of the question.

I should add that this is a recent phenomenon. Last summer I had the same setup, and there were no problems like this. Is it possible for coolers to become less efficient over time?

thats pretty high mine with stock clocks and cooling idles at 46 and loads at 68

Go with a TRue or a Tuniq that will help BIG TIME... A cheap watercooling cannot stand up ur end up spending nearly 300 for a good watercooler.

The fact that your ambients are so high combined with the fact you've got a B3 really don't help. A TRUE would help, but only so much. For $100 I would just recommend buying a window ac unit and putting it in the window closest to your comp lol.

buy a tuniq tower / TRUE?

Hahaa oh believe me the thought has crossed my mind. But I don't think my parents would approve, considering how much the electric bill would skyrocket.

Even when the temps are cool at night (15C - 20C) my temps are in the high 60's and sometimes low 70's. So a TRUE or a Tuniq eh? I suppose nobody can tell me which is better. I'll look into both of them. Thanks for the replies.

EDIT: I like how the Tuniq comes with a built in fan. I also think I have a space 200CFM fan laying around here somewhere, wonder what that would do with the TRUE.

a True is much better but only by 3c and its ugly. And Tuniq is About the Same but looks SOOOO much better with the black flame.

IF you get the True Do a penny mod.
If you get the tuniq do a washer mod

But LAP one of them, By lap i mean sand it till its perfectly Flat. and ur get some good temps.

Probably get the Tuniq then, which is only $50 and I don't have to buy a fan. I was too lazy to lap this zalman but I guess with the temps Im seeing it's probably worth the effort. Not sure what a washer mod is though.

Use washers on the screws to help tighten the fit, but I still recommend a TRUE. The biggest difference, though, is doing something about ambients and airflow.

Improve you ambients in any way you can (open window, install the PC outside lol) and improve airflow with an open case or better fans.

That will do a much bigger difference than any air-cooler can give you.
Best of all it's free. If you really want a new cooler, it isn't worth going ''just'' air. You would need one of those TEC-chilled coolers. I know what they say, but it's the only thing around 100-130$ that I can recommend. Either go all the way, or just those free mods.
