Ram

Thread Starter
As ive written in another thread, im running a 3/8'' loop with (striker 2 extreme):
XSPC pump > PA120.3 > Q6700 OC'ed > MOSFETs 1 > MOSFETs 2 > DDR3 4 GB

My dilema is whether to include the rams in the loop or not. Since the OC will be around 3.8GHz, the rams will be running hot... Currently i have a pair of OCZ Platinum XTC rev2 and they start burning after few minutes from startup. I guess the DDR3 will be hotter, due to higher frequency. Yet, i have doubts about the efficiency (in cooling) by ram blocks, such as Flexx II, and besides, i think that these blocks add too much restriction in the loop.

The other solution is to get a good pair of passive cooled rams (such as Reapers), but i don't know how much a hot ram will hinder the OCing.

Any suggestions/comments?

isn't that a lot for one loop?

Thats fine for one loop if the mosfet 1 and 2 blocks arnt really restrictive but watercooling the ram is pointless, just like wcing your hard drives, the passive heatsinks for ram is MORE than sufficient cooling for ram. Frequency of the ram isnt the source of heat, its the Vdimm, and since DDR3 runs at even lower voltage than ddr2 it will most likely run cooler. But if you really are set on cooling your ram just pick up a set of thermalrite HR-07 heatsinks for ram.

Speaking about cooling or restriction... i don't know, hence the thread
