X-Arcade Dual Joystick or Dual Tankstick?

Thread Starter
There probably aren't many fighting game fans around these forums but I was wondering which of those two I should get and if they are as durable as they say they are. I will be using it for my PS3 but I have a few questions about it. Your thoughts and experience will be helpful as I'm ready to get one when Soul Calibur IV releases. I will also be using it for Tekken 6, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, and maybe some older fighting games.

X-Arcade Dual Joystick
X-Arcade Dual Tankstick

Is the lag time going through the converters bad?
Joysticks are precise and hard to break?
Easy to use/configure?
Responsiveness?
Difference between the two besides the mouse ball in the center on the tankstick?

I play fighting games competitively (not active at the moment though) and I know a lot about arcade sticks, so I hope you'll listen to my advice

Stay as far away from X-Arcade sticks as possible. They are overpriced, they don't use genuine arcade parts (American arcade cabinet use Happ parts), they lag with converters, and they're just plain trash overall

Now here's what I recommend instead:

1) MAS Super Pro.Stick

This is the best retail arcade stick with an American style layout. They come with a variety of Happ parts which are exactly the same as those used in the arcades. I recommend getting the Competition Joystick and Competition (convex) buttons as there the most commonly used parts in arcades. You could spring an extra $45 for the P360 joystick which uses an optical sensor rather than the switches in the Competition stick. This is the closest you'll get to the real thing and it's what I highly recommend since I'm guessing you want an American layout.

2) Hori Real Arcade Pro 2

This is kind of the Japanese equivalent to the MAS stick as it uses authentic Japanese arcade parts (except the buttons in the regular models) and a layout exactly the same as Japanese arcade cabinets. The buttons can be easily modded out for Sanwa or Seimitsu buttons (the two biggest companies for arcade parts) along with the joystick. Most serious tournament players uses this stick or a variation of it, unless they prefer an American layout (i.e. old school SFII players). There's a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3, which is made for the PS3 but is incompatible with any other system.

3) Custom Arcade Sticks

This is the most expensive option, but you get exactly what you want. There are some people on the internet that you can commission to make a custom arcade stick made exactly to your specification (material used, arcade parts, PCB, artwork, etc.). Some people purchase these just as a piece of art while others has them made to suit their playing style. I only recommend this for the hardcore. You can find the majority of these stick builders at the Shoryuken.com forums.

Finally you should get a PS2 arcade stick because there's a lot of converters that will work lag-free. For PS2 -> PS3, the Pelican converter is the best

Thanks for the reply guys. Especially you Rakukojin. Rep+ for the info and indeed very good info at that. I did noticed that the price is pretty steep for the X-Arcade sticks so I had my doubts. The Hori sticks you talked about were my other option because I heard they are very good arcade sticks. But one more question, where could I find the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 for the PS3? I'm checking that one out because it's specifically for PS3 and I won't have to worry about any converters. If you have any other reason why I should get any other stick, feel free to tell me why because my options are very open and I have plenty of time. Btw how's the difference between the american joystick and the japanese one since I have been using those american sticks in the arcades for awhile now and I was wondering if the switch would be difficult.

EDIT: I researched more on those Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks and I'm seeing great reviews and positive feedbacks from them. I decided to get the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3. It was actually pretty tough trying to find one at a decent price, or just finding one in general. Most places are out of stock while others have nasty prices. I guess they're rare since they've been released for some time now. Anyway, I found a decent price and bought it right away. Just hope it's as good as people say they are. Thanks again.
