Still haven't upgraded!!!!!

I am having a problem. I am about to upgrade, but can't figure out what to get. I was thinking about a Q6700 or E8500 with a XFX 780i. Maybe even going with a E6850 or E8400 with a XFX 780i, also I could get another 4gb of OCZ DDR2 SLI by getting the E6850. I can't make up my mind. I use my computer for gaming, surfing, benchies, and want to start folding. Any suggestions? By the way I love to overclock. So keep that in mind. I will be using an OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler with OCZ Freeze Extreme Thermal Compound.

Well If you like overclocking, a lot of those chips will do that. Especially the E8XXX chips. If you want to fold more, I would suggest a Q6600 or Q6700. The quads can turn out almost 5000 points per day if you set them up right, and with a Q6600, its a bit cheaper than its big brother the Q6700. The Q6700 has a 10x miltiplier, whereas the Q6600 has only a 9x. If your motherboard is decent, both chips will clock to about the same. I would recommend the Q6600 over the 6700, as the price is a bit better.

If you want to game primarily, the E8XXX series chips might be a better bet. Most games arent coded for quads yet, with the exception of a couple. These chips can get up to 4 ghz or so, and cost about the same as a Q6600. PErsonally Id rather have 4 cores over 2, even if the chip runs a couple hundred mhz slower. I primarily game, and fold.

As for benchmarks, the Q6600/Q6700 would probably get you better scores, depending on what benchmark you are running.

Well I made the dive. I finally purchased a Q6700, XFX 780i, and a Xigmatek S1283 with OCZ Freeze Extreme compound. Hope I can get a 3.8 stable oc out of this setup.

Depends on your VID. If you have a VID lower than 1.3 then you should be good voltage and temperature wise for 3.8.
