Might want to try reseating, did you make sure your lap was flat? Also, make sure you applied your TIM correctly.

try making sure you set the TRUE directly on the CPU, sometimes people don't have it in contact with CPU and can cause false readings. that is pretty high though...

well this was my first time seating it, so im sure i prolly messed it up. is that top movable brace thing supposed to touch my mobo? Becuase it didnt make it all the way down before i couldnt screw anymore. My lap job was pretty good, not perfect, but i got a mirrow finish on 90% of it, rest still had some copper with scratches on it.

The mirror finish isnt as important as making sure that the surface is flat, not convex or concave at all.

And it soudns like you seated it right, so its either your TIM job, or your lap job isnt flat.

Ya, i probably need to relap it..i didnt have any duct tap so i had to use a sanding block and i put the true on its side to do it, there was a little mm almost strip on the top and bottom that was a different shade copper then the rest. i did the razorblade test but then i tested my table and i found out the blade wasnt even flat

And im assuming i messed up my tim job, i put it on the TRUE, then moved the true around on the cpu to spread it out...found out thats not how you do it LOL. i tried to use a business card and credit card to spread it...but it would just stick to the cards and not spread at all. i have OCZ freeze 5. Since i wasnt able to spread it ( i spent like 10 mins trying to figure out a way to do it) should i jsut put a tiny line on the cpu like i saw on the other thread and just stick my true on top of it, not bother ing to try and move it around?

*edit* i have a scythe sp-5 fan strapped to it (it took me 20 mins but idid figure out the damn true mounting brackets)..is 1500rpms low for that?
i dunno about rpms, but I have a 138 CFM fan on mine. ANd yeah, the way you lapped that, sounds like it wont be too flat. I lapped mine on a large pane of glass with the paper taped to it, and I didnt push down on the cooler at all, I let the weight of the cooler hold it down, and I lapped it on 600 for about 4-5 hours, then moved to 1500 for another 45 minutes, and my temps are pretty nice now.

any idea how to lap a cpu if i dont have that plastic cover it came with to protect the chip while im lapping it?

Well, its risky, but i have seen people who lapped it with no cover on the back. I personally wouldn't try it, but its an option.

I also heard something about painters tape, but I do not remember if it was determined to be safe or not.
