Not really sure which to get it'll be mainly for gaming. Any insight on which one I should choose?

E8500 is much more expensive than Q6600.
In terms of the $ , Q6600 will be a better choice

I'm using E8500 @ 4.5GHz, only disadvantage of Quad-core is quite hard to OC compare to C2Ds.

The endless debate over the golden-child Quad vs. the new Dual. IMO it really depends on what you're going to use it for in the end.

FACTS:

--The dual will almost certainly overclock higher with less hassle
--Most games are not able to utilize four cores
--Quads are very advantageous for multithreaded apps like Photoshop
--Quads are great for multitaskers.
--Quads generally create more heat clock-for-clock when compared to a 45nm dual.
--Quads in theory are more 'future resistant'. This of course is assuming that more developers will write their apps multithreaded. Will this happen in the lifetime of your new processor? Maybe?

For strictly gaming, I'd overclock an E8400 and put the cost difference between it and the E8500 back in my pocket.

I see this question in a new thread at least once a day. I think there needs to be a Sticky.

The dual core will be as good as the quad for gaming, but the quad is good for other CPU intensive applications (photo editing, video editing, drafting, multi tasking, etc.) and future games are likely to utilize quad cores.

Q6600 is best option for multi-use.

You would be better off getting the Q6600 plus its Quadcore
