True, true. But I'm not interested in production - I'll get a guitar sooner or later - but for now, music playback, and decent gaming performance is what I'm looking for.

MASSIVE CAPACITORS!! It is definitely related to the SE-150PCI. Though I'm surprised that it doesn't have balanced out at that price. What's the difference between the LTD and the regular SE-200PCI aside from the EMI shield?

I would not call this a sound "card", but the Allen & Heath Zed series mixing boards will give you balanced in and out + give you plenty of effects via usb. The boards range from zed14 399.95, zed24 699.95, zed420 1499.95, zed428 1699.95, and come bundled with cakewalk sonar le6. I have yet to hear anything sound better out of my computers. The zed14 and zed24 have sweepable mids, while the zed420 & zed428 have dual sweepable mids. all boards have aux rca in\\out and have main out + 4 monitor out's. The top 2 will have center out as well. At 399.95 the zed14 would make a sound card drool

I'd say the best audiophile sound card would be a top-line receiver connected by HDMI to the computer outputting 24bit/192Khz 8CH LPCM.

I'd say no. It doesn't make any sense to use HDMI when you can use optical, and outputting 24/192 means you are resampling all the time unless you have native sources in 24/192. Plus you won't be getting balanced output like other highend PC setups.
