I ditched it for PC Tool's free virus scanner, which works great in x64.

The latest AVG 8.0 has problems with Spybot's immunisation process under Vista x64. I assume you have Spybot Search and Destroy installed so either uninstall Spybot or switch from AVG to Avast instead.

I have no problems, but I am also only using AVG.

No problems here only using AVG, but I would like to know how to turn it back on after turning it off for a gaming session. 7.5 was super easy to turn back on...

Have you tried re-installing it? Have you looked at the event log? I have it running on mine and have not had one issue. I am also using it with my other PC (vista 32) and it is fine. Are you getting it right from AVG?
