fyi, avast! Home Edition comes in a native x64 flavor. PCMag gave it 4/5 rating.

I just installed Avast yesterday. It's pretty cool. It even talks to you after it updates haha. Nice touch, I suppose.

I run both Spybot and AVG on XP x64, so it must be just a Vista problem.

I have the same exact problem. I like AVG and dont want to switch to another anti-virus. I have "downgraded" all of my PC's from Vista over to XP and am about to switch this one as well. Vista is a F*&ckin hastle. The security is great, but a little too much for me. Does anyone know a fix to this problem instead of just suggesting other products?

if you are talking about User Account control you can easily disable it, and just find internet security or anti virus that is compatible with 64bit there are lots out there, and allot of 32bit programs work with 64bit as well, only things that do not work are old 32bit/64bit anti virus and old cd/dvd burning programs, and some 5-10 year old applications that only a few people complain about, but Vista is a great operating system, don't ditch it
and Directx10 gaming is awesome, and directx9 games run faster in my experience,

and freeware anti virus/firewalls etc never work as well (in protection) as paid for products, but they still provide decent protection

if you don't like all the enhanced security, just spend sometime telling vista you are a power user not a newbie, and thats disabling UAC as i said above
once you have configured it the way you like you will find its allot better then Windows XP
